Stories Only YOU Can Tell: Personal Storytelling Workshop

Personal storytelling is a captivating way to build bridges between people and cultures. To witness another’s story can be a transformative experience for both the listener and the teller. Sharing stories from our lives – on stage – is the new wave of performance art that is accessible to all who have a story to tell – and that includes you!

Be inspired to share a story from your life through this workshop offered by MATV (soon to be “UMA” Urban Media Arts). You will learn professional writing skills, speaking skills, and enjoy connecting with a group.

Instructor CD Collins is an accomplished author, poet, writing and performance coach. CD has facilitated workshops in a variety of settings, and is experienced in creating a comfortable, supportive environment, fostering an understanding that every voice counts. Participants will learn to shape and hone their narratives through writing and reflection, and practicing aloud. A small performance for family and friends will be coordinated after the conclusion of the workshop.

Kentucky native CD Collins has three published books and five CDs of spoken word with music. Her album Kentucky Stories won “Best Spoken Word CD” at the Boston Poetry Awards. She has appeared at Berklee College of Music Performance Hall, Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, the New York Public Library, and as a guest at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for a pilot conference to advance innovative technologies to support the inclusion of people with disabilities. She is currently writing a collection of essays entitled “The Big Little Town.”
