MATV Executive
Director Jeff Hansell leaves MATV...
Long-time executive director Jeffrey Hansell
is leaving Malden to head up new media center in Belmont. Read about it
HERE
Your voice has been heard
Thanks
to many calls, and letters from Malden and from all over the country,
several bills which threatened the very existence of MATV and every
other community media center have been withdrawn or sent back for more
consultation.
Malden's own Congressman Edward J. Markey has been instrumental in
representing the public interest, especially in safeguarding the legal
framework that provides for local funding for Public, Educational, and
Government access TV channels, like MATV.
Let Representative Markey know how much you appreciate his work on
behalf of MATV and all community media centers across the U.S. If you
or your organization, church, school or group has benefitted from the
many services and opportunities offered by MATV, then please take a
minute to pass your story onto Markey via fax, phone call, letter, or
email.
In addition, please consider sending a copy of your letter to the
office of Mayor Richard C. Howard, as well. As the City of Malden
continues to negotiate a renewal of the local cable TV franchise with
Comcast, your voice needs to be heard. The needs of the people who work
and live in Malden play a crucial part in helping the City to make the
best deal for cable TV service in Malden and for maintaining the
funding for MATV.

If
you care about local democracy, free speech, and your access to
electronic media, then let your voice be heard. If MATV serves a vital
role in fostering media literacy, in providing a forum for debate and
discussion for local issues, in helping local organizations, government
and schools fulfill their missions, then contact your elected officials.
