I feel like it’s been a true “Midsummer night’s Dream”. After suffering a long and lingering spring, summer has blossomed into a series of warm, sunny days of bright blue sky and warm ocean currents. Needless to say, I just got back from our annual family vacation. This year, it was Hampton Beach and a marvelous time was had by all.
But now, it’s mid-summer and time to get back to work. Hey, I’m not complaining, I have one of the best jobs in the world. I get to teach people how they can use electronic media to have their voices heard. Sometimes that means producing their own TV show, other times it means helping out on a production crew for someone else who has something to express. There are even times when we are helping someone understand how to use the internet, blog or just video stream something they just put together for their friends. Either way, MATV, Malden’s Media Center is the resource that makes all this possible…whether you are a viewer, a participant or part of the crowd that just cheers us on, we welcome you.
We are currently getting ready for our summer programs and everything is falling into place. We are proud to say that our annual two-week program, the “Kids Video Adventure Workshop” is as popular as ever and this year, will filled it by the beginning of June. We are also pleased to announce that our newest youth program, “Multi-Media Madness” is beginning on August 1st and we are so excited. Unlike the KVA, which is a two-week program from 8:30am-1pm, this new workshop is from 10am -5pm and is only for one week and explores new media such as blogging, streaming video and animation.
The other thing we are looking forward to is our Annual Meeting in September. This year our theme is “Voices in Democracy, By the People and For the People”. We feel it ties into the upcoming Municipal election and we wanted to feature how MATV has become this resource to help promote those voices. As we prepare for the many political races upon us, some of who have already started, I want to again, remind the all the candidates how important it is to use our facility to get your message out. That could range from participating in one of our upcoming forums, using our community bulletin board for a message, becoming a guest on one of the existing shows or join MATV and put together a show of your own. This doesn’t even include our annual, “Meet the Candidates” video that is produced by our staff member, Brian Biggie and features the “person behind the candidate”.
The Annual Meeting is set for Thursday, September 22 and will be held at the Senior Community Center located at 7 Washington St. Keep your eyes open for a save the date card. For those candidates needing further information, call 781-321-6400.
