For many
years, beginning in 1989, Ron was an active member
of MATV where he hosted and produced the long-running "Live On Tape"
show, which featured many local guests and entertainers. Ron also
served on
the MATV Board of Directors from 1992 - 1998, including two years in
the role
of Board President. In 1990, he became the Program Director at
Wakefield
Community Access Television, where he served for three years, and then
moved to
Salem Access Television, where he served as the Director of Training
&
Production. Along the way, Ron moved out of Malden,
up to Gloucester,
where he still lives with his wife, Pat. In 2003, Ron returned to
WCAT,
this time in the Executive Director role. Ron successfully
negotiated
a license agreement with Verizon at WCAT, experience he now brings to Malden, as we
continue
our license re-negotiation process with Comcast.
Ron's passion
for community television has been evident
throughout his tenure in the field. Originally trained as a social
worker, but
always delving into art, animation, and video production, Ron was able
to meld
his two interests with many of the programs he has done with youth at Malden, Salem,
and Wakefield.
Ron has
taught hundreds of kids of all ages to write, film, perform, and edit
their own
movies. "To me, it was natural to inspire kids to create their
own
videos," he says. "One of the most rewarding things has been to
take something I love, video production, and match it with something I
did in my
previous life - working with kids."
