Fee: $30 Instructor: Heather McCormack
MATV is offering a two-part Introduction to Podcasting class on Thursday, March 22 & Thusday, April 5, from 7:00 – 9:00pm. The first class on March 22 will be held at The Gallery on 480 Main Street (formerly Malden Pops Up!), and the second class will be at MATV, Malden’s Media Center at 145 Pleasant Street.
Audio-based programming known as podcasting has exploded in recent years as a way of communicating stories. Learn how you can create podcasts in this introductory course. The class will review the difference between podcasting and broadcasting, explore different types of content and discuss how to curate an interesting podcast. Basic use of the MATV podcasting recording set-up will be demonstrated. Students will be asked to record a podcast interview before the second class, which will then cover the use of Audacity (free downloadable software) and basic audio editing, including adding copyright-free music. The course will end with notes on regulation, distribution and syndication.
Instructor Heather McCormack is the Boston Free Radio Manager & the Youth Media Coordinator at Somerville Media Center. She is passionate about using the power of community media to engage all people in telling their stories, especially those that are traditionally underrepresented. She is the producer of the biweekly podcast “Make It Stop,” reviewing the worst albums of all times. It can be found at makeitstopcast.podbean.com.
The fee for the class is $30 for all MATV members. If you are not currently an MATV member, you can join for a special rate of $10 for participants of this class only. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 781-321-6400. You must pay for membership and the class in advance. Check or cash will be accepted in person or by mail.
